Alberto Juan Ruiz del Valle

Alberto Juan natural from Almagro studied chemistry at the Faculty of Chemical Science and Technology (UCLM) of Ciudad Real. In 2004 he awarded the degree in chemistry and had the first contact with an Organic Chemistry Lab during the last 2 years of the degree –carrying out the synthesis and characterization of new dendrimeric structures with light harvesting properties- under the supervision of Dr. Julian Rodriguez, Senior Lecturer in the area of Organic Chemistry (UCLM).

He started his research career at the CSIC, in the Prof. Avelino Corma group, at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ-CSIC), in Valencia, under the supervision of Prof. Felix Sanchez, at the Institute of Organic Chemistry  (IQOG-CSIC), in Madrid, where he had the opportunity to participate in projects related to the synthesis of organic structure directing agents for the generation of new zeolite structures, organic ligands and organometallic complexes for homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis and biocatalysis, -from January 2005 to August 2006-, as associated project phD fellowship.

From September 2006 to September 2008-, he worked as technician at NMR Lab in the Organic Chemistry Center “Manuel Lora Tamayo” (CENQUIOR-CSIC), in Madrid, under the supervision of Dra. Maria Luisa Jimeno, Staff Scientist and head of the NMR Lab at CENQUIOR, where he acquired the main knowledges of the NMR spectroscopy technique, as well as the maintenance of superconducting magnets, structural elucidation of organic compounds and a wide range of the last NMR advanced knowledges -by the I3P European Social Funded Program. After that, he participated in an Institute of Polymer Science and Technology´s (ICTP- CSIC) project, -from October 2008 to July 2009-, under the supervision of Dr. Angel Marcos Fernandez, Staff Scientist, in collaboration with the Catalan company “Merquinsa”, -based on synthesis of monomers (polyols through ROMP) and polymers containing urea groups in their structure for the desing and properties evaluation of an adhesive system.

After these years, he returned to his home university (UCLM ) to participate in a project head by Dr. Andres Moreno, Senior Lecturer, -from September 2009 to December 2010-,  based on the application of NMR spectroscopy for the full characterization and quantification of full components in typical CLM food (Cheese, wine and olive oil), characterization of semisolids and nons-soluble mixtures by High Resolution Magic Angle Spinning Nanoprobe and carry out Microwave assisted heterogeneized catalityc transesterification of oils for biodiesel obtention. During this period he obtained his Master degree in Sustainable Chemistry and decided to carry out his doctoral thesis, -from January 2011 to December 2013-, under the supervision of Dra. Mª Victoria Gomez, INCRECYT researcher at the Regional Institute of Applied Scientific Research (IRICA-UCLM), -PhD fellowship by the Seventh Framework Programme Within (FP7). CORDIS, European Commission-. In December 2013 he awarded the PhD degree with the project title: Monitoring and optimization of photo-activated continuous-flow reactions by transceiver microcoils, focused on the modification of a comercial probe with radiofrecuency microcoils for the on-line and “in situ” monitoring of photochemical and microwave-assisted processes, which involves the use of NMR small volumes and continuous flow techniques. Optimization of continuous flow photochemical process optimization (synthesis of interesting aminoacids precursors and εtruxilic acid derivatives). Performing of Diffusion NMR PFGSE and DFT (computational tools) for the self-assembly study of supramolecular systems (self-assembly of a metal helicate by CHπ interactions).
