Alberto Juan Ruiz del Valle
Alberto Juan was born in Ciudad Real and lived in Almagro until started his studies in chemistry at the UCLM, in Ciudad Real. In 2004 he obtained his degree in chemistry, apart from his first contact with organic chemistry lab, in the last 2 years of his degree -developing the synthesis and characterization of new dendrimeric structures- under the supervision of Dr. Julian Rodriguez (proffesor at the UCLM) in the area of Organic Chemistry (UCLM).
He started his research career at the CSIC. At the Dr. Avelino Corma group (Research Professor at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), Valencia), under the supervision of Dr. Felix Sanchez (Research Professor at the Institute of Organic Chemistry (IQOG), Madrid), where had the opportunity to participate in projects like the development of organic structure directing agents for the generation of new zeolite structures and the synthesis and characterization of organic ligands and organometallic complexes with interesting applications in catalysis and biocatalysis, -from January 2005 to August 2006-, as associated project phD fellowship.
From September 2006 to September 2008-, he worked at the department of NMR in the center of Organic Chemistry “Manuel Lora Tamayo” (CENQUIOR), at CSIC in Madrid, under the supervision of Dra. Maria Luisa Jimeno (Scientific Research at the Centre of Organic Chemistry (CENQUIOR)) where he acquired the main knowledges of the NMR spectroscopy technique, as well as the maintenance of superconducting magnets, structural elucidation of organic compounds and a wide range of the last NMR advanced knowledges -by I3P European Social Fund Program. After that, he participated in an Institute of Polymer Science and Technology´s project, -from October 2008 to July 2009-, under the supervision of Dr. Angel Marcos Fernandez (ICTP Scientific Research), in collaboration with the Catalan company “Merquinsa”, -based on synthesis and characterization of monomers and polymers containing urea groups in its structure and adhesive system design and evaluation of its properties.
After these years at the CSIC, he returned to his home university to participate in a project head by Dr. Andres Moreno (professor at the UCLM), -from September 2009 to December 2010-, based on the application of NMR spectroscopy in the determination of typical CLM foods composition, such as manchego cheese, olive oil and wine, as well as the evaluation of the chemical properties and the main components reactivity under Micro-wave irradiation technique. During this period he obtained his Master degree in Sustainable Chemistry from the UCLM, and decided to carry out his doctoral thesis, -from January 2011-, under the supervision of Dr. Andres Moreno (Professor at the UCLM) and Dra. Mª Victoria Gomez (INCRECYT researcher at the Regional Institute of Applied Scientific Research (IRICA), at UCLM) -PhD fellowship by the Seventh Framework Programme Within (FP7). CORDIS, European Commission-.Nowadays, we are working in the design and optimization of new online monitoring systems of chemical processes by NMR-microcoils. Focused on the integration of our system within the Lab-on-a-chip concept, UV LEDs are employed as energy source for carrying out fast photochemical processes.
